Driving times are given according to the Michelin website above which we think is rather optimistic. Those in bold we can say are pretty accurate from experience. Ask at the Tourist Information Centre in Bovec.

Driving time from Bovec: 1½ hours
If open, travel along the Vrsic Pass, a beautiful journey, with about 50 hair pin bends! Or travel on the car train between Bohinjska Bistrica and Most na Soci (50mins) If flying into Ljubljana you may like to stop off in Bled for a couple of nights to/from the airport. Here there is a beautiful lake with the island church. You can get a gondola to explore the little island church, wander around the lake, swim in it or take a pony trip around the lake. Visit the cliff top castle. Vintgar Gorge is worth a visit walking along the spectacular walkways within the gorge, passing white water rapids and crystal clear pools. There is a ski run in the winter or a dry toboggan run affording beautiful views across the lake, in the summer – terrifying but brilliant fun!

Lake Bohinj and Mount Vogel
www.bohinj.si  or www.vogel.si
Driving time from Bovec: Close to Bovec – depends on your route. This is close to Bled and is another glacial lake for swimming and boating with small beaches on the shores. There is a cable car up Mount Vogel again allowing you to see beautiful views and even paraglide down! This ski resort often has green winters. Also a walk to Savica waterfall.

Ljubljana – Slovenia’s Capital
www.ljubljana-tourism.si
Driving time from Bovec: 2 hours
This bijoux capital city is about the size of a county town with the architecture of Prague and Venice. In Spring and Summer the café tables spill into the narrow streets of the Old Town and street musicians entertain passers by in Presernov trg and on the little bridges spanning the river. It is a "little Prague" or a "more intimate Budapest". Visit Ljubljana Castle, the National Gallery, Museum of Modern Art and the markets, and enjoy a boat trip along the river. There is also an outdoor theatre.

Driving time from Bovec: 50 mins
This is another ski resort with activities all year round although there are a greater variety of activities in Bovec.

Lipica - Lipizzaner Ponies and Skocjan caves
www.lipica.org  and www.park-skocjanske-jame.si
Driving time from Bovec: 2 hours
The Lipizzaner Stud Farm would be a great trip to tie in with the world famous Skocjan caves which are a World Heritage Site.)
There are regular horse shows to seat Lipica Stud Farm including both exhibition and training performances. You can also ride the ponies yourself.

Piran and Portoroz
www.portoroz.si
Driving time from Bovec to Piran: 2 ½ hours
"Everyone‟s favourite town on the Slovenian coast, picturesque Piran‟.
These are pretty coastal towns. Piran has rocky beaches whilst Portoroz has a sandy bay. You can enjoy cruises from these places along the coast including to Croatia, Venice and Trieste. http://www.slo-istra.com/mainpage/slo.asp
